Creating a comic panel is essentially the same as a creating a comic strip. I use the same methods. However, with Double Take, I first draw the top panel on paper, then scan and finish the rest of the drawing digitally. It’s easier to edit and draw this feature using a digital tablet than it would be using paper and pencil.
If you do create a comic panel, remember that the entire “episode” needs to take place in a one panel area using only one drawing. Sometimes, one panel cartoons will split the area and you may see two drawings, but for the most part, it’s “One panel, One

drawing.” You can add a word balloon within the panel and dialogue lines at the bottom (some cartoonists sometimes use both at the same time). Word Pile and George’s Word Ladder (at right) are also created using traditional and digital methods. Key drawings are made on the printed panel templates, then scanned and edited digitally.
